The Chat panel: your whole conversation with the agent
Every message, every full answer, every preview and what happened to it — in the Chat panel on the right. It opens by itself the first time the agent replies, stays next to Parameters, and comes back when you reopen the Thing.
The line above the prompt bar shows only the agent's latest words, so it never covers your model. The Chat panel on the right is where you read the whole conversation for this Thing.
What's in it
- Everything you said — typed or spoken (a small mic marks spoken messages).
- Every reply in full, as it is written.
- Answers to your questions, with the suggestion button when there is one ("Make the walls 2.5 mm thick?"). Click it here or in the line above the prompt bar.
- Previews the agent proposed, with their summary and what happened to them: Applied, Discarded, or Not applied. While a preview is on the model, its card says so — accept or discard it above the prompt bar.
- The agent's questions, with their options. While a question is waiting, you can answer it by clicking an option in the chat.
- Anything that went wrong, in plain words (for example "You're out of AI credits for now").
Switch the panel to Trace to see how the agent worked — routing, tool calls, timings and checks. See Reading the agent trace and the ghost preview.
It stays open next to Parameters
The first time the agent replies in a conversation, the chat opens by itself under the Parameters tabs (side by side with them on very wide screens), so you can keep adjusting sliders while you read.
The right panel itself may be folded into a small pill in the top-right corner of the view. Then the reply opens it for a few seconds, floating over the view. Move the pointer into it to keep reading, or pin the panel (the pin at the end of its header row, or ]) to keep it and the chat open. A reply you haven't seen yet puts an orange dot on the Chat icon of the pill (and on the Chat tab of a pinned panel); a pulsing teal dot means the agent is still working. See Side panels and floating cards.
- Close it with the × in its header. Solid Vibes remembers that on this browser: it won't open by itself again. It is still one click away in the Chat tab, or via Full chat on the line above the prompt bar.
- Dock it with Dock chat in the Chat tab. It then opens under the Parameters tabs with the editor every time. (Docking keeps the chat inside the right panel; the panel's pin is what keeps the panel itself open.)
- Long messages wrap: long words, links and file names break onto the next line, and code keeps its lines and scrolls sideways inside its own box.
You type in the prompt bar
There is one place to talk to the agent: the prompt bar at the bottom. That keeps images, voice, the Smart / Fast switch and your selection in one spot. In the chat, Reply in the prompt bar (or press /) puts the cursor there.
It comes back
The conversation is saved with the Thing. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and the chat shows where you left off — the agent also remembers it, so "make it a bit bigger again" still makes sense. Each person has their own conversation; teammates on the same Thing don't see yours.
New chat starts a fresh conversation (the model stays exactly as it is). The old one is closed and won't come back.
